When the survey was taken asking staff if they wanted a 195 or 190 day work week. It was not clear that it would mean a net pay decrease for those of us who have insurance through the schools. My estimated pay decrease will be about $2,000. As I am nearing retirement, I am not pleased that my salary will go down rather than up. I don't see how an extra 5 days off during a summer break makes an appreciable difference in anyone's quality of life, but $2,000 might make the difference if a family can take a vacation or not.
Since student days will not be decreased, we lose 5 planning days. I am not sure this was clear to everyone when the survey was taken either. As a teacher, I do not want fewer planning days.
