Dear Members of the Los Alamos School Board:
Re: The School Board Vacancy
I write to you as someone who has worked more than 40 years on the health and education of young children.
The mission of the School Board is to enable high quality education in effective, efficient and fair ways. The School Board must also ensure that our children are educated in environments that are safe.
The School Board’s mission has been complicated by the present pandemic. Moreover, the number of infections in the United States is now increasing, partly due to a variant that is more transmissible and virulent than earlier variants. Children under 12 years of age are too young to be vaccinated against the virus that causes COVID. Although young children tend not to become very sick from COVID, some children do become very ill, get hospitalized, suffer a related multi-system syndrome or die. In addition, it is possible that infections in our children today could lead to long run health problems, about which we still lack sufficient data.
Ms. Nickole Aguilar Garcia is running for a seat on the School Board.

Ms. Aguilar Garcia posted on the Save Los Alamos Facebook page that:
“Fauci needs to be in prison for what he did.”
She also noted said that Dr. Fauci should be imprisoned for lying about:
“The source of COVID, the effectiveness of masks, and the fact that he was involved with the creation of COVID and the vaccine from the get go.”
Ms. Aguilar Garcia’s comments raise serious questions about her respect for science. They also make clear that she does not understand the present pandemic or the risks it poses to our children.
In light of the above, I wanted to highlight for the School Board that any vote for
Ms. Aguilar Garcia would be an inexcusable dereliction of duty that could place our children in harm’s way.
