to public....@laschools.net
Dear Board:
I live in Broadview, near LAMS. I am opposed to the development of this land. I am someone who just moved here without knowledge of this beforehand. One of the reasons I moved here was that I thought the school system cared about the students and it’s quite clear as Los Alamos has an aging population and LANL is hiring a lot of young new people that the number of school age children will continue to rise rapidly. This land is vital to the kids and the community and if it should be developed, it should be for the benefit of the students.
LAPS, to my knowledge has not had an attorney, financial expert or some other professional review the MOU. Pluses and minuses need to be evaluated by an expert and that needs to be released to the public.
It will add 1000 people to North Mesa. That is way over the capacity for the existing road infrastructure. Traffic during school drop off and rush hour will be even more horrible and not safe for the students. Emergency evacuation would be a nightmare.
LAPS is supposed to act in the best interests of the students. The Board has a fiduciary duty to do that. Leasing this land to the County is not in the best interests of the students. The Lab is hiring a lot of people, most of whom will have families. LAPS will need this parcel, it is last one LAPS has, to build a new school, or add on.
Kindest Regards,
Derek
