Please consider giving school nurses the authority to administer basic care medications, such as motrin and claritin, to students while they are in the care of the schools. Allowing school nurses to administer care concentrates routine care within a specific individual who can monitor doses and treatment.

While I understand not all parents want others to administer medications, Girl Scouts use a very basic form (attached) that covers the range of care students (scouts) may need while not in the care of parents. The full range of potential medications may be necessary on school trips.

I write this message knowing kids who needed care on the recent Denver trip and were not able to get help. I'm concerned that not allowing kids to seek care from the nurse forces them to look for treatment from their peers, which is a far worse option.

Please consider following the Girl Scout model, and giving kids a safe option.

Thank you for your time,
