Hello,

My name is Kate Ramsey and my daughter has been in LAOLA for 2 years. We are writing to let you know how thankful and grateful we are for this invaluable resource. 

I understand that an online academy may not be right for everyone, but I believe this little gem has more to offer than folks realize. 

My daughter is somewhat shy, sensitive, and had a hard time keeping up in in-person school. She needed more of an individualized approach to learning. Sending her to LAOLA was the best thing we could have done. In this environment, smaller classes allow her to have more individualized time with the teacher. Office hours let her ask for help. The kids in the classes are the sweetest and most caring I've ever seen. There is really no opportunity for bullying as virtual recess time is monitored by staff. She's made wonderful friendships. Their once a month adventure Fridays give the students and teachers time to be in-person through a variety of fun field trips and activities.

Most importantly, she is thriving academically. Through the online environment, I know what she is working on and I can help her when needed. There is no second guessing or not knowing how she is doing or what she needs help with. She is a much happier person using this academy. She gets just as much socialization of in-person students through their interaction online as well as extracurricular activities. 

Lastly, I am most impressed with Mrs. Steinberg and her staff. They are always timely in responding to requests. There is an opportunity to really get to know the teachers and staff through their great communication. I commend Mrs. Steinberg for all of her dedication and hard work on this academy.

My only wish is that LAPS did not consider LAOLA almost a separate entity. LAOLA is not a covid school, it is not "going away soon" and it isn't like online school was during covid when everything shut down. Please consider more support for LAOLA and make it an equal option along with in-person school.
