Tomorrow (Wednesday) is out monthly meeting!

Who’s got something to present?

I’m about 50/50 as to whether I’ll be able to be there tomorrow.

Jeff,

There was an older gentleman, a friend of yours who manufactured circuit board cleaning machines attended the meeting Tuesday night and began discussing politics, pointedly toward Chinese nationals. After a half assed apology and continued rant from this gentleman, Liang walked out.

I'd planned on attending regularly moving forward. I want to let you know I will call out and correct repeated narcissistic behavior from this same source, especially someone who claims to be a brother in Christ, as I am.

Respectfully,
Jodson Graves

Jodson,

Oooohhhh! That is NOT acceptable behavior. You are welcome to have obtuse opinions elsewhere, but keep them to yourself at the Meetup. Thank you for helping to make the meetup a safe space for everyone, and please do not hesitate to ask someone who is behaving that way to leave.

Wow..

smh... wow.

As a tangential observer of the list/community, I'm increasingly less
hopeful that this US thing will hold. When a "techy" group can have
politics intrude.. wow..

Things like bitrates, long ints, bytes/bits, hex/ascii.. these things
aren't political.

Hopefully future meetings go "better". But the underlying drive for
this mess has always been with this country at a low hum.. It now has
permission/encouragement to shout out loud.

wow... just wow.

Don't be discouraged about the US. Growing pains aren't pleasurable, but necessary if we want to be mature. I have no doubt our friend just needs to go a little bit beyond his small world network to get a real sense of his mistake. I am also full of mistakes.

To the gentleman I referenced for correction, this was meant to be a private message between Jeff and I. I apologize for exposing it to the whole group as I like to correct people in private, with a friend, then before the group. I botched step two, but please stand corrected.

In fact, sir, I invite you to be a member of my organization, NTARI free of regular dues for a month. We are building a set of low-level systems to help communities operate beyond nationalistic paradigms and value the human species as it cultivates life on the planet, everywhere. What do I mean? We're starting with an agriculture networking system inspired by TCP/IP. Join our Slack channel, drop me a DM and I will add you to our Confluence group.

I was present and can confirm Jodson’s characterization of events. I was prepared to leave, but others in the group persuaded me to stay and have a side discussion about web dev and assembly language.
