Thought some (many?) of you might be interested in a local hackathon, hosted by KYCombinator in late February:

It is an excellent opportunity to grow, learn, and collaborate with others. Do you have any advice on preparation or advice for success on this event? Thanks

Are we going to be a team for this?

Is there any particular topic we could study to be better prepared. Is it open to any level, even for beginners?

I’ve actually never been to a hackathon either (!).

I think that this is open to all skill levels, but they are assuming at least a baseline “you can write code and do things” — this is not a “we’ll teach you how to code and do things” kind of event.

I think people should feel free to make their own teams — we don’t need to have a single team for all of KYOSS.  The rules state teams should be 1-4 members.

There’s now actually quite a bit more information up now than there was earlier today: https://www.hackkentucky.com/

I think I saw on there somewhere “Bring a problem to solve with code, and the will to solve it!"

E.g.:

Who Should Attend?

Whether you're a seasoned coder or just starting your tech journey, HackKentucky welcomes all who are passionate about technology and innovation.

  • Computer Science and Engineering students looking to apply their skills
  • Design students interested in creating user experiences
  • Business students wanting to develop entrepreneurial tech solutions
  • First-time hackers eager to learn and explore
  • Experienced developers ready to mentor and lead

And:

Hackathon Rules

  • All code must be written during the hackathon
  • Teams can consist of 1-4 members
  • Use of open source libraries and APIs is allowed
  • Projects must be submitted by the designated deadline
  • Respect the venue and other participants
  • Have fun and learn!
