setting up url/dns/cname/etc..

Hi.

Anyone (and I'm sure this is) here with skills/patience willing to
walk me though how to do a complete setup of a test remote server
with a real test url/name from a domain register.

Using digital ocean or one of the other test remote servers.

Would like to figure out how to set up/implement a 3rd party email
service/provider for having a test webapp send/receive emails as well.

Long ago, postfix/sendmail (if i recall) were used. However, appears
that a bunch of spam has been sent from blocks of IP, so huge
numbers of IP are simply blocked now. So, it's probably easier to just
go through a 3rd party opp.

It sounds to me like you want https://sendgrid.com/en-us/solutions/email-api or https://try.mailgun.com/mailgun-vs-sendgrid/ or https://mailchimp.com/resources/mailchimp-comparisons or a bunch of others I've never heard of like https://www.warmy.io/

I've used some of them in the past, frankly I don't recall much differences, except that mailchimp wants to manage the email campaigns vs the others who just send the emails.  

Email sending, SMTP as a service.  Somewhat more costly, but not if you value your time.

If you want to "fix" your server's SMTP you can, but it will be slow and tedious:
