Hello KYOSS!
After a year hanging around all over Louisville, I'll be moving back to Florida at the end of September... :-(
Before I go, I'd like to use my last chance to present to the group some things about Rebol, which is an open source project I've been involved with for over a decade (!)
Rebol is an unusual Lisp/Forth-inspired language that originated
from the 90's Commodore Amiga subculture. It emerged around the same
time as Tcl/Tk, and was applied toward similar problems. But there's more to
it than meets the eye!
Compared to a "popular" language, only a few people are involved. But we have some videos up from a conference in 2019, so you can get a sense of some of the people who use it:
For my presentation, I want to give a little technical intro to the language, and what I think is notable about it. But since this is specifically an open-source audience, I want to spend some time talking about the "people"-challenges that were involved. There was a long battle to convince a proprietary tool to become open source, followed by disappointment at seeing it become the most fragmented project I've ever encountered! I think I have some insights about what worked and what didn't, and what part of that is my fault. :-)
Best,
--Brian
