Hi SIG Apps community,

We would like to propose a new repository under kubernetes-sigs to address a growing need in the AI/ML ecosystem: managing the lifecycle of Model Context Protocol (MCP) Servers on Kubernetes.

We're proposing to create kubernetes-sigs/mcp-lifecycle-operator, a focused controller that provides standardized lifecycle management for MCP Servers. This project aims to bring Kubernetes-native patterns (CRDs, controllers, automated rollouts) to MCP Server deployments.

We are seeking SIG Apps sponsorship for this new sub-project. The proposal below outlines the core capabilities, goals, and scope, while the detailed API design and integration patterns with other projects (Agent Sandbox, Agentic Networking, etc.) are intentionally left to be defined collaboratively within the community. We're seeking sponsorship to establish the repository and begin this community-driven design process.
