Deprecation announcement for cloud-provider-equinix-metal

hello all,

The Equinix Metal platform is being discontinued on 30 June 2026[0]. As such, SIG Cloud Provider will be deprecating the cloud-provider-equinix-metal project. We are currently working to bring the repository up-to-date with kubernetes 1.34 dependencies, and then we will plan to keep the repository open until the 1.37 release of kubernetes. After the 1.37 release of kubernetes, we will archive the repository.

In the meantime, SIG Cloud Provider is committed to ensuring that the repository has passing unit tests and will receive security related updates as necessary. We will not be updating the kubernetes dependencies though, as we will allow for the version skew to age this controller out of existence.
