[Announcement] Transitioning WG AI Conformance to a SIG Arch Subproject

Hi everyone,

Following our recent progress and discussions with the SIG Architecture leads, we are pleased to announce that the AI Conformance Working Group is officially transitioning into a subproject under SIG Architecture.

Context and Rationale

Since the launch of the AI Conformance program at KubeCon NA, the working group has met its initial goals of defining the baseline requirements and establishing the self-certification process. Transitioning to a subproject ensures a home for the program's long-term maintenance and evolution, following the model established by the existing Kubernetes Conformance subproject.

What is Changing?

• Repository Rename: The GitHub repository is being migrated and renamed from kubernetes-sigs/wg-ai-conformance to kubernetes-sigs/ai-conformance.
• Mailing Lists: To ensure seamless communication, participants from the wg-ai-conformance mailing list will be added to the sig-architecture mailing list. The existing WG list will eventually be merged to consolidate discussions.
• Slack & Meetings: The Slack channel and biweekly meetings will remain for continuity.
• Governance: The subproject will now own the repositories and report directly to SIG Architecture.

2026 Roadmap

Our primary goal for 2026 is to move from the current manual self-assessment process to a deterministic, automated testing framework. Please take a look at the Kubernetes AI Conformance Automated Test Framework proposal.

We want to thank everyone who has contributed to the working group's success so far and look forward to the next chapter under SIG Architecture.
