All,

At CSU we’ve gotten to the point where we have a Financials instance up and running against CSU data. We are working through various technical issues and have gotten to the point where we are looking to add links to the Home panel on the main page so we can start working with portions of our customization overlay. Is there any documentation around best practices for this sort of modification? Any and all information is useful.

Thanks,

-Steve

Steve,

I don't think we have documentation on making modifications to the menu for local customizations. Our recommendation is to have an admin user add links via institution configuration where possible. If you must add links via data, then you can look at how the existing data is setup for examples.

Note, that we are planning to eliminate custom links in the menu which appears at the top right of the screen as those links get moved to the left side navigation. You should avoid adding custom links to that menu.

Hi Heather:

I have some questions and concerns about the Institution Configuration screen

·         When I first brought this up and clicked on the navigation configuration it was empty except for the “add new” button.  I added a new item and saved which caused the entire menu table to be truncated.  I discovered that the initial load for the page was failing because it couldn’t resolve a class, but instead of stopping it continued without notification.  When I saved, the code assumed I had deleted all the menu items.

·         When I click on an item I see a modal dialog with a drop down box to select the group, along with selection for activities/reference/admin and whether clicking on the item should open a new window.  Is there a way to rename the item?

·         Add Custom Link allows a link name, and URL.  Is there a way to add a custom doctype or boClass instead of the URL?

·         Moving an item and saving is causing a primary key constraint violation.  I haven’t had a chance to drill down further into this.

In general, we are having difficulty understanding the intended user for this screen and how it is intended to be used.  Any information would be helpful.

Thanks!

Mike - Please work with your TIC representative to report any bugs to the Partner Jira queue.

By design, there is not a way to rename delivered links via institutional configuration. The purpose was to help keep names consistent in the system. Renaming the link would not rename the labels on the document or lookup and would cause confusion.

KFS does not provide a way to add custom doctypes or boClass via the institution configuration UI. Other schools have manually added these links via the database.

The institution configuration section is designed to be setup by an admin at your university. Individual users should not have the ability to make changes to the menu as changes impact all users. The idea was that if your school wants to change the grouping of links or add custom links to local documentation, then you can use this tool to meet those needs.

I hope that helps.

Heather
