Hello All,

While utilizing the Customer Upload process, the following error occurs in 7.x version of KFS.  Ultimately, the upload was successful if these records were removed or altered.

Analysis revealed that the customer name is used to create the Customer Code and seems to balk at the space.  Has anyone else run into this and/or have a solution to the issue?

Thanks!

Kris

Hi Kristine, this has been an issue for a while - we thought it was a TEM related issue and closed the JIRA, not realizing the upload would balk too - as you discovered.

Thanks, Kymber

All,
UH found this issue during our initial KFS4 implementation and modified the code so that the customer number only uses the system generated numeric portion.  We had planned to contribute the fix, but part of the contribution requirement was to write a conversion program for existing records.  Since we didn't have to convert anything we decided not to contribute.  Happy to share our mod although it's pretty simple.

Thank you Tammy and Kymber!    At this time, we do not anticipate having anything to convert either, and we may be interested in utilizing the mod.  I’ll share this information with our development team.

Thanks,

Kris

Hi Daniela, yes, it makes sense that this should be a contribution. I believe that CSU fixed this as well in a different way, so this one should probably be run by Kuali engineers to determine the best solution - as Tammy noted, the UH solution will require a conversion program for the schools that are currently using the AR module. CSU though may have only fixed this when customers are created by TEM. Anywho, probably worth some technical discussion.

Thanks, Kymber

Thank you very much, great info!

Kymber & Kris,

Since this customer name validation is a known issue I am wondering if we could contribute this fix so that we don't need to maintain a customization.

Tammy, Sid,

Would it be possible to also send us the code changes for changing the customer number to use only the system generated numeric portion?

Thank you,

Daniela

Hi Daniela, All,

This was a bit tough for me to figure out, because in our KFS 4 codebase I am not sure if it was tagged correctly, and then in KFS6 for our upgrade we had a "big" mod that we had a lot of commits for, and as part of it brought this code over.  I *think* though this is the only file needed - however converting existing records over we don't have code for that
