Dear Comp542 Students,

We have another guest lecture tomorrow from Ömer Güneş at Oxford. Here is a short bio for the speaker and the recommended reading list (also posted on course website):

Omer Gunes received the PhD degree in computer science from the University of Oxford. His doctoral dissertation titled "Oxtractor: Large-Scale, Domain-Based, Hybrid Approaches to Aspect Extraction" was selected to be a joint-venture by Oxford University Innovation. He has worked as a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in computer science for three years at Pembroke College, University of Oxford where he studied novel methods to understand formal negotiations, legislative text and quasi-Parliamentary processes using natural language processing and deep learning. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Computer Science, University of Oxford where he is the co-investigator of two research projects on:  i) automated knowledge base construction and its application to scientific documents (SciNLP, BioNLP), ii) ethical black box design in human computer dialogue and ethical AI. He also leads the NLP team at DeepZen where he pursues his research on emotion recognition, character identification, language modeling, genre & style detection, conversational AI and multi modal machine learning.
