I hope you had a nice vacation. We are starting a series of guest lectures this week. The first one is by my former student Volkan Cirik, who just received his PhD from CMU. He will give a presentation based on the following work, please read before lecture:

Multimodal Machine Learning: A Survey and Taxonomy

If we have time, Volkan volunteered to also answer any questions you have on his PhD experiences: academic and industrial research, finding jobs and internships, academic-industrial collaboration.

Konuyu size daha once bahsettigim gibi belirledim, asagiya summary - supplementary reading list ve lecture slide linkini birakiyorum. Ekleyelim cikaralim dediginiz bir sey olursa haberlesiriz.

Summary: In this lecture, we briefly introduce fairness and bias in machine learning by explaining definitions, metrics and reasons for having multiple of them. Next, we visit types of bias in NLP models, preventing bias in NLP applications.

Title'i 'Definition and metrics of fairness, and bias in NLP models' olarak seçtim. Genel fairness framework un den bahsedip, NLP uygulamalarini anlatmayi planliyorum. Zaman kalirsa son yaptigim ranked outputlarda fairness conceptinden bahsedecegim.
