Distant Horizons, Close Friends

“International perspectives refer to one’s awareness of global issues, and the interest in as well as understanding to the world other than his/her home country (Liu Bi-Rong, 2014).” Living in an era of information explosion, people no longer passively rely on one-way information from traditional press media. Thanks to the internet and convenient global transportation, we are able to reach to different cultures, and interact with people from all over the world not just by our imagination. Therefore, it is necessary to cultivate international perspectives.

The theme of the 2018 Asian Student Exchange Program (ASEP) “Distant Horizons, Close Friends” reinforces the main idea of international perspectives. By welcoming friends across Asia, such as Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, India, Malaysia, Vietnam, and New Zealand, the annual event has become an important opportunity for Kaohsiung to promote international exchange, and a wonderful time for the students to connect to the world.

As Confucius saying goes, “What a great pleasure it is to have friends from afar!” We have been looking forward to having you here. Let us enjoy this carnival atmosphere at the end of the year, and experience the true beauty of intercultural exchange.
