KP Community,
Last Friday, I shared with you the Superintendent's boundary recommendations. You may have felt that the recommendation marked the end of this long process and that boundary lines were essentially settled. However, there is one last major milestone ahead: the Board of Education vote on March 26th. There are several public hearings being held for the remainder of this month with one dedicated to the Woodward/Northwood Boundary Study on February 24th. It should be known that these public hearings are where any additional feedback on the boundaries will be handled - no more surveys and BOE gets final vote and approval.
There will be communities that may not agree with the recommendations or have concerns about projected utilization numbers for their high school area. Their feedback may suggest or recommend changes that impact our current recommended boundary and increase WJ utilization from the current projected 78% to something closer to +90%. This increase could make absorbing future growth due to future housing developments in our boundary area challenging.
This is where you come into play...public hearings can also be a forum to express support and endorsement of recommendations.
As with each phase of this long engagement process, every family must decide what factors matter most to them and submit feedback based on their own priorities and perspective. If you support the recommendation and want to let the BOE know that you support it, if you would like to ask again that KP Tuckerman remain in our school together to NB and WJ, or if you want to ask for our current Tuckerman students to be grandfathered into WJ...now is the time to act!
You can register to testify as an individual here (deadline is 12 pm tomorrow, Thursday 2/12):

If you don't get selected or miss the deadline, you can also submit testimony at BOETes...@mcpsmd.org (and it will go to all BOE members).
