Hello KPES,

LET IT SNOW… LET IT SNOW… LET IT SNOW…

As we continue through the heart of winter, I want to take a moment to remind everyone that there is NO SCHOOL on Monday. With the snowstorm, please be extra cautious, limit travel when possible, and prioritize the safety of your family. We hope our students enjoy the snow while staying safe and warm.

Please also stay alert for any school closures or schedule updates related to the winter weather. Families should continue to monitor official MCPS communications for the most up-to-date information.

Winter weather can be unpredictable, and we encourage everyone to stay informed, stay warm, and look out for one another. Thank you, as always, for being such a thoughtful and supportive school community.

Staff Appreciation – Mid-Year Supply Restock
Now that we are officially in the mid-year portion of the academic calendar, the Hospitality Committee is helping teachers and staff restock classrooms and offices with much-needed school supplies.

Committee members will visit classrooms next Tuesday, allowing teachers to select their most-needed items from a supply cart.

Lost & Found Reminder
After Wednesday, January 28, all remaining items in the Lost and Found will be donated.

Please encourage your children to check for missing coats, hats, lunch boxes, and water bottles before this date.

Valentine’s Day Classroom Parties
Classroom Valentine’s Day celebrations will take place on:

Friday, February 13 at 2:30 PM in the classrooms.

More details will be shared by teachers. We look forward to celebrating together.

Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Join the KPES community in celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and learning more about his life and impact. Thank you to the KP PTA DE&I Committee for helping bring meaningful learning and reflection to our school community.

But Did You Know?!?!

  1. Dr. King played the piano and violin and sang with his church choir — he even sang in the movie Gone with the Wind at 11 years old.

  2. Dr. King was a gifted student and skipped two grades (9th and 12th).

  3. Dr. King was admitted to Morehouse College at the age of 15.

  4. Dr. King was arrested 29 times.

  5. Dr. King survived an assassination attempt a decade before his death.

  6. Dr. King is one of only two Americans whose birthday is celebrated as a national holiday (the other is George Washington).

  7. Dr. King loved playing pool and was very good at it.
