Hi everyone! The wonderful preschool our 4-year-old attends, The Learning Center for Young Children (LCYC), is now enrolling new students for the September 2026-June 2027 school year.
Our kiddo has absolutely loved her first year at LCYC. We were new to the play-based co-op model and blown away by how accepting the community was from day one, and how much our kiddo has thrived there. The teachers are warm and patient, the parents are involved, and the student-to-teacher ratios are incredible. This enables so much creative activity (yoga, music, immersive art projects, game days), and fosters remarkable skills growth and independence.
One of our favorite parts has been getting to know our kiddo's classmates (and the wonderful teachers!) through the co-op process. She's on the full-day schedule and each day there's a special theme for the afternoon sessions (her current favorites: nature day on Tuesdays, baking day on Thursdays. Yesterday they made bagels!).
LCYC is located in Kensington, on Connecticut Ave (on the ground floor of Warner Memorial Presbyterian Church; the school entrance is on Calvert Place). They recently earned Maryland Accreditation and achieved a Maryland EXCELS Level 5 rating for excellence in childcare and education.
They currently have a waitlist for 4-year-olds, but they have space available for 2- and 3-year-olds. There are flexible schedules: 2, 3, or 5 day options; half-day (9:15-12:15) and full-day (9:15-3:15).
I'm happy to answer qs about our experience. Please share this with anyone who might be interested!
