Green Team Request

Hi neighbors and KP families,

We wanted to share an exciting update from the KP Green Team and invite some community support for a few ongoing projects that tie our school and neighborhood together. It is also KPs year to re-certify as a  Green School so we will have more projects coming out soon! If you have any interest at all in helping or advising, we would appreciate your contribution.

1. KP Sign Garden – Almost Complete!

Our new brick garden planter around the KP sign on Saul Road is nearly finished — and it’s looking fantastic! This beautiful addition was generously gifted by JL Landscaping and SRK Contracting, who helped us keep the overall costs low. A huge thank-you to them for supporting our Green School mission.

We’re now looking for:

• Soil donations to fill the new planter.

• Native, pollinator-friendly plants to bring it to life 

If you have native plant divisions or extra bags of soil, we’d love to put them to good use!

2. Upcoming Beautification Day

As part of our Green School renewal this year, we’ll be hosting a Beautification Day to refresh the campus grounds — spreading mulch, planting, and cleaning up. Keep an eye out for future sign-ups for tools, wheelbarrows etc. We will need extra hands!

3. “The Hill” Project

We’re also working on improving “the hill” behind the school, which tends to wash mud onto the blacktop after rain. Our goal is to stabilize it with groundcover and native plants that help control erosion. If you have hardy spreading plants or erosion-control ideas, please reach out!

4  Outdoor Classroom

If you haven’t seen it yet- give a big shoutout to our Green Team volunteers who rebuilt the outdoor classroom this fall! It’s already being used regularly by KP classes and our Girl Scout troop. 

We’d love to see our Kensington/Parkwood community involved together - KP students, families, and neighbors. We may organize a Rock Creek cleanup day later this year, so stay tuned for that
