Koha-NTX update

The first meeting of Koha-NTX was a resounding success. We had 9 libraries represented with varying degrees of Koha knowledge and experience and a total of 21 people in attendance. Plano ISD has been using Koha for over a decade and Benbrook and DeSoto are both considering migrating to Koha. ByWater Solutions had 2 representatives, Rocio (data migrations) and Julie (support) in attendance as well.

The agenda was loose, but we tried to keep with it as best as we could.

9:00 am – 9:30 am Networking

9:30 am – 10:00 am Introductions

10:00 am – 11:00 am Recap of Koha-US Conference

11:00 am – 11:30 am Round Robin

11:30 am – 12:00 pm Planning for future meetings/workshops

12:00 pm – 1:00 pm Lunch (On your own)

1:00 pm – 2:00 pm Walking Tour of Historic Downtown McKinney

There were lots of discussions about the Koha Community and the resources available. All those in attendance currently using Koha are supported by ByWater. There was a discussion about Koha-US and the Koha-US conference. Ed Veal suggested that McKinney was going to submit a bid to host the next Koha-US conference and suggested that having a strong Koha community presence in the DFW area would help the bid. It was also discussed that this group could serve as a presentation testing ground, allowing folks a safe place to run through a koha related presentation while preparing to submit or present at a library conference.

There was a round table discussion allowing everyone to take a few minutes and discuss something that either they were struggling with or were wanting to highlight. This grew into a lively discussion providing lots of suggestions.

There was a clear desire for this group to continue and grow. It was decided that the group would meet quarterly and Sue Rindour from Flower Mound offered to host the next meeting, tentatively set for Jan. 24th. The group also agreed that having a topic for each meeting was the best way to move forward.

There is a google group for the group (https://groups.google.com/a/koha-us.org/forum/#!forum/koha-ntx) and invites were sent out to all in attendance.

Hi all,

I totally forgot that our Friends of the Library book sale is scheduled for January 24, so our meeting room won’t be available. How about the following Friday, January 31?

Thanks again Ed for organizing!
