Insurance follow up, any feedback appreciated/welcomed. We are less than 3 weeks away.

Brian Gallant (Sinister Sports) suggested Canadian Adventure Racing Association for insurance. Attached on this email is the summary of what they offer, their policy is $3 per person, plus a few overhead costs, which is very similar to what insurance through Canadian Orienteering was previously. Can someone confirm that what they cover is adequate for Round the Mountain?

Sport BC have suggested that they should have a quote from us by the end of this week and then it takes 3 days to process the quote after that.

I'd really appreciate any feedback / input.

James

Hi James,

We can usually turnaround our certificates within a week, so there should still be time to get this processed if you are interesting in using CARA for your event insurance. What is covered is listed on this page of the package; we insure the people associated with the event moreso than the spaces themselves, if that makes sense.

I hope that helps,
Sally

Hi Sally,

Sorry for the 2nd email of the day, JIm was able to get me access to the documents.

The big issue that I see right now is that our event is in less than a month, it is June 19th, is there any chance that we could still get coverage?

Would this insurance cover the start/finish area where we have a DJ playing as well as food and drink vendors (that have their own insurances).

Thanks

Hi James,

The $1K deductible and $5M coverage is the same as our Trails Liability insurance so that is good.  Note that this policy specifically excludes the TOONIE races, so we need insurance for that as well.

We will need insurance for:
  • RTM - 550 participants (stephanie please confirm)
  • Bootleg Bike Fest - 150 participants
  • Bootleg TOONIE - 30 participants x ? races ( Kenton/Ryan please confirm # of races).
Action:
- Let's wait to see sportBC quote and then pull the trigger on which seems better.

James, I’m just looping Jim in on the e-mail in case he doesn't get it through the RTM e-mail address - he might have the answers.

I suspect the RTM numbers will come in about 500 as there are still refunds to process.

The CARA insurance is very similar to the orienteering association coverage. I haven’t seen the details of the Port bc coverage. The key is insurance that is good for multi discipline events.

We are currently at 490 participants, but as Jim mentioned we have some refunds to process - to make sure we are fully covered I would go with 550 in case we end up over 500.
