Hi RTM Crew,

As you have likely heard, the ski hill is in the process of installing a new chairlift on Tamarack. They have asked that access to the base of the chairlift be limited as there is machinery and equipment using the flat area.

We have determined that the most direct alternative route is simply to continue up Ridgeway toward the Easter Chair but then cut off on a lesser known cat track called Shooter.  Shooter has some nice views and a decent surface.  Shooter brings you back to the base of Tramway where you can join up to the dippy section of the RTM road.  All in all, it's pretty straight forward and adds only minimal elevation gain but also has a couple of descents.   There is also discussion if having people ascend the Lodge Face/Blueberry cat track will be needed so there is less traffic through the parking lot in general.

I'll be installing some detour signs today and starting the RTM Clearing.  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns or want to explore additional options for the race route.  The work will not be completed by race day unfortunately.

RCR has also asked to plan accordingly for parking as well. The Maintenance yard parking lot is being used as a laydown area and will not be available unless all the towers are installed by race day.  The current projected date is around June 15th but that doesn't leave any room for any sort of delays.  The main parking will be available.

Please confirm you've received this message and let me know if there are any concerns or questions.

Here are the signs I've laminated.

Thank you,

Hi Ryan,

Sending out a bulletin to all racers today, anyway you could answer the Qs below so I can share straight forward notes on the changes with racers (can you also share total distance change, total elevation change) and update the RTM Trail Forks links by the end of the day and I'll hold off and send the bulletin tomorrow?

  • Continue up Ridgeway toward the Easter Chair (how many KMs) to cat track called Shooter
  • Following (how many KMs) Shooter brings you back to the base of Tramway where you will join up to the standard RTM route (at roughly KM...?)
  • Is this happening: There is also discussion if having people ascend the Lodge Face/Blueberry cat track will be needed so there is less traffic through the parking lot in general

Thanks!
Steph

Hi Steph,

Here are the directions for the route.  It has also been updated on Trailforks.

  1. Use the Blueberry/LodgeFace Cat Track to avoid the parking Lot.   (unknown if this will or will not be necessary on race day but if you have it as the route you don't have to change it.)
  2. At the fork where the route traditionally goes right, go left following the RTM Signs on to Ridgeway Cat track.  (This is at the top of the first climb)
  3. Follow Ridgeway for 1.2KM
  4. Cross under the Tamarack lift line
  5. Immediately past the lift, fork RIGHT onto "Shooter" (cat track). Stay on Shooter for 1.4KM until it hits the original route again.
  6. Then you are back on the original road with the dips for 1km, and ride that into the singletrack portion of RTM.
Unless directed otherwise through signage, always stay on the cat track that you are on. I'll do my best to add more signs that make this even clearer if I'm able to get site access thurs/fri.

The original route for this portion was 2.3KM long with 150m of elevation gain.
The modified route is 2.6km long with 161m of elevation gain

Riders will leave the original route approximately 1.2KM into the course (not counting the Blueberry traverse) and rejoin the original course approximately 3.8KM into the race.

Hope this helps.

Let me know if you need more info.  I hope to get out there Thursday or Friday to clear the route again.  Please put me in touch with any other volunteers you have lined up to do this as well.

Thank you,

Ryan McKenzie
