to KiCad Developers
Hi All
Tamil is an ancient and rich language, spoken by more than 70 million people worldwide, primarily in India. As one of the longest surviving classical languages in the world, Tamil carries with it a profound history and cultural significance that is truly remarkable.
In today's technology-driven world, it's critical to ensure that software interfaces are accessible to people from all linguistic backgrounds. This is where the concept of localizing software like KiCad into Tamil becomes important. By providing a Tamil language interface, we can effectively bridge the language barrier, opening up the software to millions of potential new users who are more comfortable using their native language.
Localizing technology doesn't just benefit users, but it also fosters innovation at a local level. By making software like KiCad accessible in Tamil, we can inspire and enable more Tamil speakers to participate in technology development and application, potentially leading to new advancements and discoveries that may not have been possible otherwise.
But the potential benefits don't stop with the Tamil-speaking community. Tamil is part of a larger linguistic group known as the Dravidian languages, which also includes Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Tulu. In total, these languages are spoken by approximately 245 million people. By providing a Tamil interface, we could set a precedent and lay the groundwork for further localization efforts into other Dravidian languages, effectively expanding the accessibility of technology to even more people.
In conclusion, translating KiCad to Tamil can foster inclusivity and innovation within the Dravidian-speaking communities, serving as a gateway to engage a potential user base of 245 million. I am passionate about leading this initiative and acting as its caretaker, ensuring its success and sustainability. With this endeavor, we can blend technological advancement with cultural preservation, creating a lasting impact. I am eager to spearhead this exciting project.
If the developers can add Tamil to Weblate I would love to get started and make progress toward this goal
Best regards
