I have been in informed that Lady Barbara Amick, widow of Noble Charles Amick, passed away on April 4, 2026.

Barbara Glisson Amick Obituary

PORTSMOUTH- Barbara Glisson Amick, 86, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026. She was born on May 14, 1939 in Goldsboro, North Carolina to the late, Edward and Katie Holloman Glisson. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles McKnight Amick, Jr.; and her niece, Janet Grasso. She was a member of Jolliff United Methodist Church.

Barbara spent many years as a member of the Khedive Ladies Shrine, Faith Court Order of The Amaranth, and various other Masonic organizations. She loved playing Bunco with her Bunco Ladies Group, her Hardees meet ups, and her mornings with her walking group at Chesapeake Square Mall. She held a special place in her heart for dogs, especially Chihuahuas. In the late years of her life, she was kept company by her special fur babies Bella and Gracie.

Survivors include her son, Charles “Sonny” Amick (Cindy) of Chesapeake; daughter, Julie Riess (Ralph) of Indianapolis, IN; brother, Edward Glisson, Jr. (Linda); five grandchildren, Miranda Brickley (Tim), Barbara Thompson, Jennifer Amick (Mike), Amanda Taylor, and Trevor McKnight Amick (Amanda); nine great-grandchildren, Taylor, Mason, Isabella, Charli, Brandon, Payton, Griffin, Katherine, and Mickey; one great-great grandchild, Nicholas; and dear family and best friend, Alice Mahon; as well as her niece, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Burial will follow at Churchland Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the burial at their home, 3032 Princess Anne Cresent Chesapeake, Virginia 23321.

The visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:30-7 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Khedive Shrine Hospital, 645 Woodlake Drive Chesapeake, VA 23320.
