Jerry Douglas Stratton, Sr.

Jerry Douglas Stratton, Sr., age 81, of Manteo, NC, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2023. Born on August 21, 1942, in Newport News, VA, Jerry led a fulfilling life and touched the hearts of many along the way.

Having served his country honorably, Jerry was a veteran of both the United States Coast Guard and the United States Navy. He worked as a Master Journeyman Electrician for over 50 years as a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 1340.

Jerry had a zest for life that extended beyond his professional endeavors. He found joy in various hobbies, including fishing, hunting, and cooking. His love for these activities brought him closer to nature and allowed him to appreciate the simple pleasures in life.

Jerry was a cherished member of his community and took great pride in his affiliations with organizations such as Manteo Lodge 521 A.F. & A.M., Sudan Shriners, and Dare County Shrine Club.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth "Betty Bruce" Stratton. He was also a devoted father to his sons, Jerry "JD" Stratton, Jr. (Jennifer) and Steven Stratton (Katie). Additionally, he embraced his role as a stepfather to Bruce Davis (Dee), Dale Davis, and Daniel Davis (Erin).

Jerry's legacy lives on through his beloved grandchildren: Tobin Davis, Paul Davis (Madi), Rachel Stratton (Andrew), Aubrey Sneed, David Stratton, Davis Sneed, Parker Davis, and Savannah Davis. He also leaves behind his sisters, Jean Huss and Virginia Prince (Michael), along with numerous extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Services honoring Jerry's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Twiford Colony Chapel in Manteo. The memorial service will include masonic rites and military honors, paying tribute to Jerry's dedication and service to his country. To live-stream Jerry’s service, visit www.TwifordFH.com. Following the service, the family will receive friends and relatives for a reception at the Dare County Shrine Club.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Contributions can be sent to PO Box 947765, Atlanta, GA 30394 or made online at shrinerschildrens.org. Jerry's compassionate nature and commitment to helping others make this cause a fitting choice to honor his memory.

Jerry Douglas Stratton, Sr. will forever be remembered for his unwavering dedication, warm heart, and love for his family and community. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Frank Thompson
April 5, 1941 - November 8, 2023

Frank Thompson, 82, died peacefully in Norfolk, VA on November 8, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Frank was born in Bluefield, West Virginia on April 5, 1941. He graduated from Maury High School in 1960 and then served in the Marine Corps until 1964. He married the late Judith Heath Thompson in 1962.

Frank was employed by Maida Development Company in Hampton where he worked his entire career. They raised their three sons in Gloucester where he was active in the community as a member of the Moose Lodge and a participant in the Lion’s Club variety show as an Endman. Frank was extremely active in his sons’ athletic activities and coached Little League football and baseball for Gloucester Parks and Recreation. He was an umpire for Gloucester’s Parks and Rec as well as the Amateur Softball Association.

He moved back to Norfolk in 1989 where he was a member of Norview Masonic Lodge No.113 for 28 years. He was also a member of the Shriners Khedive Temple and was active in the Fire Brigade Unit. Frank was a loving family man who loved to laugh and make others laugh. He was also an avid golfer.

Survived by his loving partner of 30 years, Carolyn Stubbs, his three sons, Troy, Travis (Jolene), and Eric (Leslie), step-children Beverly Kidd and Bill Kidd (Allison), and eight grandchildren, Sarah, Taylor, Madison, Melody, Andrew, Dylan, Drake, and Kylie. Also survived by his brother Jerry (Shirley), sister Alice Moore, in-laws Carole, Georgia, and Del, and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife Judy, his parents, William and Virginia, his brothers Richard, Bill, and Blake, sisters Liz, Mary Ellen Marshall, Faye Donovan, and niece Mandy Donovan.

A graveside service will be held at Bellamy United Methodist Church, 4870 Chestnut Fork Road, Gloucester, VA at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 24, 2023, under the direction of Andrews Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 1400 K Street, Suite 1200, Washington, DC 20005.
