Disney’s 1994 The Lion King roared to a global box-office haul of roughly US $979 million, garnered Academy Awards for Hans Zimmer’s score and Elton John & Tim Rice’s “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” and became the best-selling animated feature of the millennium. In Ted Parson’s Grade-4 concert-band medley, Kelvin Grove Wind Orchestra will condense the entire savannah saga into eight jubilant minutes: sunrise horn calls from “Circle of Life,” the strutting mischief of “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King,” hakuna-matata swagger, and a final, triumphant coronation atop Pride Rock. African hand-drum energy is recreated on rototoms and tuned bongos, while flutes whistle Zulu-inspired bird calls that flutter above sparkling mallet hits. When that chord hangs in the air, bathed in cymbal shimmer like sun on tall grass, stand tall and join us in a joyous roar worthy of the Circle of Life. The savannah comes to life on Sunday 31st August at 2pm. Tickets available now via www.kgow.org.au or click the yellow button below. |
