I have been using J for 25 years or more and have had no problems installing or running it until recently.  At first I was able to download and install J9.6 and the Beta version of J9.7 but could not run either of them without turning off Real Time Scanning in McAfee.  That problem, which apparently involved jqt.dll has persisted.  I saw that there was now a non-Beta (Alpha?) version of J9.7 available, and I thought it might have solved the earlier problem, so I tried installing it.  Even after turning off Real Time Scanning, it would not install - there was a message, apparently from Windows Defender, that J9.7 was not commonly downloaded and should be regarded with suspicion, and the actual installation did not begin.  What should I do?

On the warning dialog, click “More info”, there the “Run anyway” button in the resulting dialog.

I found that the downloading problem was browser-dependent!  I had been using Edge and that put up a simple message and gave me the opportunity to give feedback to Microsoft, but not to continue the download or execute the program.  When I tried Chrome, Microsoft Defender put up a window with the "More info" button and let me run it just fine.  This allowed me to install both J9.7 and J 9.8 Beta.

However, the interference by McAfee continues when I run either version, unless I turn off Real-time scanning.   It seems to think jqt.dll is dangerous.  I hope this situation can be resolved, perhaps by having the J developers contact McAfee.

I received a notice from McAfee about an unresolved threat they were having difficulty removing.  It was j.dll this time, not jqt.dll.
