Are you running the AIO version?
Otherwise try updating the Qt lib as well.

I've a similar experience.

After performing the j9.6 current upgrade in jconsole, jqt will not
start. From jconsole,

JVERSION
Engine: j9.6.0-beta25/j64avx2/windows
Build: commercial/2024-11-24T15:41:46/clang-18-1-8/SLEEF=1
Library: 9.6.9
Platform: Win 64
Installer: j9.6 install
InstallPath: c:/other/j9.6
Contact: www.jsoftware.com

From cygwin command line:

$ time /c/Other/j9.5/bin/jqt -js 'exit(":i.-3)fwrite'"'abc.txt'"; cat
abc.txt; rm -f abc.txt; echo

real 0m0.337s
user 0m0.000s
sys 0m0.015s
2 1 0
$ time /c/Other/j9.6/bin/jqt -js 'exit(":i.-3)fwrite'"'abc.txt'"; cat
abc.txt; rm -f abc.txt; echo

real 0m0.061s
user 0m0.000s
sys 0m0.000s
cat: abc.txt: No such file or directory

No jqt with j9.6.0-beta25 on the Mac M1 Max:

   JVERSION
Engine: j9.6.0-beta25/j64arm/darwin
Build: commercial/2024-11-24T15:38:09/clang-15-0-0/SLEEF=1
Library: 9.6.9
Platform: Darwin 64
Installer: j9.6 install
InstallPath: /applications/j9.6
Contact: www.jsoftware.com

Using Raul's test code on the M1 Max:

(base) sblank@MacBook-Pro bin % ./jqt -js 'exit(":i.-3)fwrite'"'abc.txt'";cat abc.txt;rm -f abc.txt;echo
dyld[14720]: Symbol not found: _qt_version_tag_6_8
  Referenced from: <7557667E-2D08-3F10-8D4B-F68140216B4A> /Applications/j9.6/bin/jqt
  Expected in:     <E53D4AFC-0159-386F-B8D6-A55DD7B93F47> /Applications/j9.6/Qt/Frameworks/QtCore.framework/Versions/A/QtCore
zsh: abort      ./jqt -js 'exit(":i.-3)fwrite'"'abc.txt'"

cat: abc.txt: No such file or directory

Not an expert, but it appears that I don't have the correct qt version available?  The same test code runs correctly on j9.5.

Cheers,

Stan

You could try downloading jqt from
Then replace jqt and the Qt folder with the new versions.
You may need to run macOSfix.command  to avoid the macOS security restrictions.
