There is, I hope, a simple way to improve the jQt IDE UI, by replacing the tool bar icons.

I’m considering free icons under MIT licence: https://icons.getbootstrap.com.

They have a modern look and could help showcase the language.

If possible, also refine horizontal/vertical alignments of the headers and tool bars, and ensure that fonts and graphical elements look either exactly the same or clearly different (I’m trying to attach a picture to this post to illustrate this).

I hope these are simple ways to make J look even more appealing, but I know UI frameworks may have limitations and this might not be a priority.

Thanks. We would welcome any improvements to the Qt IDE. In
particular, getting the icons right has always been troublesome.

Do you have specific changes that you would like to suggest?

If you like we can give you write access to the repo (at
https://github.com/jsoftware/qtide), or help you compile on your
desktop.

Thanks Chris,

I’d love to work on the source code to improve the UI but I’m not familiar with the framework. A quick look at the repo shows there’s a lot to learn. Given my limited free time, this could easily take months or even years and I might not succeed.

Tuning up graphics can become a never-ending task, which is why I suggested only two changes in my initial post.

If these aren’t clear or you need more detail beyond the link and attachment, I’m happy to help.

I’m still open to trying working with the repo if there aren’t any time constraints and no one else is available. You could also share some guidance to help me find my way more easily.

I’ve noticed more and more products relying solely on HTML5 and JavaScript for their UI. If the topic becomes too complex, that might be an option to consider.

I’m very open to discussing these aspects further. Should we do this on a separate channel?

Will
