Dear ISSOTL Colleagues,

I am excited to announce and celebrate with you the upcoming publication of Teaching Undergraduate Science: A Guide to Overcoming Obstacles to Student Learning (2nd ed.), available from Routledge on September 25th. You can preorder the book with a 20% discount at www.routledge.com/9781032818962

Updated and expanded from the first edition, in this text I elaborate on critical factors in cultivating student success, including how to engender a sense of belonging and agency in STEM, engage students in their learning, and foster deliberate practice. As in the first edition, each chapter focuses on a specific student learning challenge in STEM, providing key ideas from research and a selection of strategies targeting the learning issue. I share guidance on the relative effort and outcomes for each strategy, allowing instructors to choose techniques best suited to their aims and contexts. Even though the text focuses primarily on teaching face-to-face classes, the ideas apply across modalities.

I think you'll find this book to be a valuable aid in these changing times, an asset that helps instructors support the achievement of more of their students within the confines of regular classroom practice. The ideas can also help spur your own SoTL research.
