Dear ISSOTL community,
The NYU Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is pleased to host the 3rd annual Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Symposium on April 4, 2025, at 8:30am–1:00pm EST (4:30pm–9:00pm Abu Dhabi | 8:30pm–1:00am Shanghai).
Participants will join the symposium via Zoom to hear and converse with keynote speakers, faculty presenters, and panelists. The presentations will examine SoTL methodologies and projects at various developmental stages – from those just getting started to those fully engaged in teaching and learning enhancements as well as completed and published projects.

Kelly Schrum
SoTL: Embracing the Power and the Possibilities
This keynote presentation will explore how moving beyond disciplinary silos in SoTL fosters multidisciplinary thinking to address complex educational challenges.
Kelly Schrum is a professor in the Higher Education Program and interim director of Graduate Programs at George Mason University. Her research and teaching focus on SoTL, digital pedagogy, digital humanities, and the history of higher education. A historian by training, she has directed over 60 Open Educational Resources (OERs) with support from federal and state agencies. Schrum is also the co-editor of Teaching & Learning Inquiry, the journal of the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSOTL), and presents her work nationally and internationally.



Nancy Chick
Doing SoTL That Matters
This keynote presentation will explore how to conduct meaningful SoTL research, highlighting key decision points that enhance its impact for both scholars and educators.
Nancy Chick is the director of Endeavor Foundation Center for Faculty Development at Rollins College. She has an extensive background as a SoTL educator, scholar, and faculty developer with numerous publications on SoTL research and practice. Formerly an English professor, she now focuses on advancing SoTL and was the founding co-editor of Teaching & Learning Inquiry, the journal of the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSOTL). Her upcoming book, The SoTL Guide, co-authored with Peter Felten and Katarina Mårtensson, will be published this fall.
