The series showcases new inquiry into the relationship between teaching and learning in post-secondary education. Drawing on disciplinary approaches, scholars from the humanities, social and natural sciences, and professions share theoretical frameworks and investigative outcomes while situating their work within broader contexts that transcend disciplinary boundaries. This series aims to support a transformative agenda for higher education by advancing understanding of what matters in student-centered learning and catalyzing innovation and improvement in teaching.
If you have ideas for a SOTL book that you would like to write or read, or if you have heard about a project that we should know about, we want to talk! Please contact me at the addresses below, or speak with me at an ISSOTL conference. Or contact IU Press directly. I’d love to hear your thoughts at any stage in their development.
In the meantime, enjoy the conference--and a few of our compelling topics and beautiful covers, below.

All in all, well done. I agree 100%. I especially support the transition from pedagogy to “Creating technology‐enabled lifelong learning: A heutagogical approach.” Much more empowering at this stage of adult education. It indicates a recognition of students capabilities and the capacity for successful learning. In addition to… “creates transformative educational experiences that stimulate higher-order thinking and personal growth.”
What I find missing is the recognition of the importance of attunement, connection and engagement with the students when communicating with them rather than at them. Don’t undervalue the relationship they develop with the instructor as it supports their motivation. There are multiple intelligences and the recent research regarding Emotional Intelligence indicates it is essential to Motivation. I strive to achieve this in every course I teach and encourage our programs instructors to embed EI in their communication with students.
It’s been decades since I was enrolled in a school, however, I remember each instructor/teacher from K-12 and Universities who connected with me and were a great motivating force in my life. Don’t you?
