Journal of the Audio Engineering Society (JAES)
CALL for PAPERS
Special Issue on Expanding Frontiers of Web Audio

We are pleased to invite contributions to the special issue on Expanding Frontiers of Web Audio to appear in the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society (http://www.aes.org/journal/). The capabilities of web browsers to play, process, and record audio have been continuously improving over the last few years. With most parts of the Web Audio API now being supported by all major web browsers, rich audio applications in the browser, such as interactive sound experiences, sound editors, digital audio workstations, music live coding environments, and diverse types of collaborative music making applications, are now a reality. As a result of such development, several recent efforts have focused on building new frameworks, tools, and applications on top of web audio technologies, which push the boundaries of web audio, increasing its potential and bringing it to new audiences. In this special issue we welcome unpublished work presenting advanced web audio–based tools, frameworks, and applications, which contribute to expanding the frontiers of web audio and feature research on—but not restricted to—the topics listed below:
  • Frameworks and tools featuring new abstractions on top of Web Audio API and other related APIs;
  • Innovative audio-based web applications;Audio transmission and resynthesis
  • Innovative audio-based web applications;
  • Web audio frameworks for audio synthesis, processing, analysis, and transformation;
  • Web-based live coding and collaborative environments for audio and music generation and performance;
  • Development tools, practices, and strategies for web audio applications; and
  • Web Audio API, Web MIDI, Web RTC, and other existing or emerging web standards for audio and music.
Submissions will be judged based on their academic quality, novelty, and relevance to the aforementioned topics. Authors of excellent contributions to relevant conferences, such as the 6th Web Audio Conference (WAC 2021), will be invited to submit a revised and extended version of their paper to this special issue.
