All,

Blue Water Baltimore has sent out this urgent call to sign this letter to send to the council regarding Red Maple Place.  Please review quickly and consider sending it out to your membership.  This community may lose their last bit of forest and it's particularly concerning because this tiny patch of forest helps mitigate stormwater in this community with a history of flooding.  The community has been fighting this for years, but they could use a little help from their friends.    The Baltimore County Council is meeting on it this evening, so signing this letter will send a note to your councilmember.

Preserve the Forest. Respect the Community.
Reject Red Maple Funding.

An upcoming vote of the Baltimore County Council will determine whether a proposed development in East Towson continues to receive public funding.  The problem?  The future site of Red Maple Place is the last patch of forest in this historically Black neighborhood - and it’s home to the headwaters of the Herring Run stream.

Tell the Council: No More Taxpayer Funding for Red Maple Place!

This project has already received substantial public investment at the county and state levels. Providing even more funding, despite significant community opposition and unresolved concerns about flooding, sewer capacity, and environmental degradation, would be fiscally irresponsible.

The Baltimore County Council will meet on July 1, 2025, to vote on continued funding.  Let them know: this is not a question of whether we support affordable housing. It's about whether we are making responsible choices about where to build it. East Towson has borne the brunt of disinvestment and environmental burden for too long, and it’s time to direct taxpayer funds into the basic infrastructure repairs and upgrades that will benefit everyone in the Herring Run watershed for generations to come.
