This 3-day gathering will provide opportunities to build understanding and expand opportunities for future collaborations for scientists and faith leaders in the Chesapeake Bay region. This event will utilize conversations, thought experiments, and site visits
to connect scientists and faith leaders around shared priorities. Additionally, it will provide opportunities to reflect on lessons learned from existing science and faith collaborations.
When: Monday, October 6 (2pm) - Wednesday, October 8 (12:30pm)
Where: Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (647 Contees Wharf Rd. Edgewater, MD 21037)
Who: Scientists and Faith Leaders from the Chesapeake Bay Region
Support Provided: All participants will receive a $595 stipend as well as housing and all meals during the workshop.
Application Deadline: September 1st, 2025 at 5:00pm
We are looking to engage participants across backgrounds, expertise, and career stages. We are particularly interested individuals who are in positions to make change within their organizations at institutional or programmatic levels. We have capacity for 14
participants.
Scientific attendees should have expertise in environmental science, public health, geography or a related field. Additionally, attendees should be at the post-doctorate fellow level or more senior.
Faith leader participants should have an interest in incorporating environmental science with their congregations, and should currently be in a leadership position within the congregation.
Attendees are expected to participate in all three days of the workshop.
