Hello,

I'm unable to use Illluminated Cloud today. I do have a disabled virtual ethernet adapter but I don't see why this should prevent me from using my Illuminated Cloud license. This machine is managed by my company and I can't enable or disable any adapters.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi. I apologize for the issue, but this is something that required by the licensing software used by Illuminated Cloud 2 in order to create a unique digital "fingerprint" for the machine to activate/verify the license key. While the linked doc says that this only happens on older versions of Windows, I've heard reports from numerous IC2 users who see this on current versions, though it may be a driver update that's required. Either way, you will need to ensure that all of your network adapters are enabled and up-to-date, minimally for the license activation/verification. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience, but that's the proper path to getting this resolved.

I don't feel sorry is the best response here. My work computer is managed remotely. I don't have the ability to turn a virtual adapter on or off.
The value of the time  I'm giong to lose driving to another facility to try to get help for this is more than I paid for Illuminated Cloud.
If this is something I have to do whenever our IT administrators push out a windows update, your product will become useless to me, along with IntelliJ.

Yeah, trust me that it's not a response I ever want to give a user, but this specifically is unfortunately completely out of my control aside from switching to another licensing software provider, and that's unlikely to happen due to the immense switching cost, both for me and for all existing licensed IC2 users.

If you'd like I can connect you with someone from the licensing software vendor to see if any other options are available, but in my experience their response is going to be the same...update Windows and the network interface drivers and makes sure that they're all enabled for license activation.

If you do want to get a discussion going with the vendor, reach out to me directly and I'll be happy to facilitate that.
