I have an existing org/code base that isn't able to change to DX.
I was going to experiment with LWC local development, but when running the commands in the IC blog post, I ran into this error:
ERROR running force:lightning:lwc:start: this command is required to run from within an SFDX project.

Is there a manner in which I can still leverage LWC local development using Intellij+IC?

Matthew, the LWC local development server can currently only be used against a source format project with a .sfdx directory and an sfdx-project.json file. You don't have to work against scratch orgs, but you do have to have a source format project that is compatible with Salesforce DX development-against-any-org model to use the LWC local development server.

I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
