Dear Americas family,

We are beyond excited to open the call for the IFMSA Delegation to the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development - Ninth Meeting, taking place from April 13 to 16, 2026, at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago, Chile.

This is a unique and powerful opportunity to represent 1.5 million medical students at one of the most important regional spaces for the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: and we want YOU to be part of it.

| About the forum

The Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development is the regional mechanism created to monitor and review the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), their targets, means of implementation, and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for Development.

The Forum is state-led and open to all countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. Convened under the auspices of ECLAC, it is guided by the principles established by the 2030 Agenda: approved by the UN General Assembly in September 2015. It brings together states, the private sector, civil society organizations, as well as ECLAC subsidiary bodies, development banks, other UN agencies, and regional integration blocs.

The Ninth Meeting will be held in person at ECLAC Headquarters in Santiago, Chile, and will serve as a valuable space for peer learning, voluntary reviews, exchange of good practices, and discussion of shared goals toward sustainable development.

| About the IFMSA Americas Delegation

The delegation will consist of IFMSA Americas members, led by the Regional Director for Americas ad Interim and supported by the External Affairs Regional Assistant for Americas. Selected delegates will represent our federation at this high-level intergovernmental forum, advocating on behalf of medical students across the Americas on issues related to the SDGs and sustainable development.

Please note: In-person attendance in Santiago, Chile is required for the entirety of the forum for selected delegates.

| Objectives of the IFMSA Americas Participation

As part of their advocacy efforts, the delegation will:

  • Deliver statements and interventions from the floor that reflect IFMSA's position on sustainable development, the SDGs, and their intersection with health and medical education.

  • Participate in parallel and side events held throughout the Forum.

  • Network with external partners, civil society organizations, and member states relevant to IFMSA's work in the Americas.

  • Showcase IFMSA's participation through social media and communications.

  • Contribute to the creation of advocacy plans, policy briefs, and advocacy publications aligned with the Forum's themes.

  • Participate in and contribute to capacity-building sessions within the delegation.

  • Support the regional team in logistical aspects of the meeting.

  • Act on behalf of medical students across the Americas in advancing the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda.

Other possible delegation activities include attending plenary sessions, participating in reflection sessions, and potential speaking opportunities.

| Selection Criteria

Applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Motivation for participation and alignment with the Forum's themes.

  • Experience in sustainable development, the SDGs, or related topics (experience outside of IFMSA is also valued).

  • Experience in IFMSA external affairs or policy work at the national or regional level.

  • Contribution to the delegation and clear follow-up plans at the local and national level, including commitment to supporting future delegations.
