Dear IFMSA members,

I am pleased to announce that IFMSA has been invited to participate in the 19th World Congress of Anaesthesiologists (WCA2026), which will take place from April 15th to 19th, 2026 in Marrakech, Morocco.

What is WCA?

Since 1955, the World Congress of Anaesthesiologists has been the leading global event in anaesthesiology. Organised by the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA) in partnership with the Moroccan Society of Anesthesia, Analgesia, and Critical Care (SMAAR), WCA2026 will gather specialists from over 130 countries to advance science, education, and collaboration in anaesthesia and perioperative medicine.

The congress will feature:

  • High-level scientific lectures
  • Presentation of cutting-edge research
  • Hands-on workshops
  • Thematic discussions on the global workforce, patient safety, perioperative care, and health systems strengthening
  • Hybrid participation options

Selection Criteria

All applications will be evaluated based on:

  • Only students, or those who have student status within six months before the meeting, are eligible to apply
  • Only IFMSA members from active NMOs are eligible
  • Experience related to anaesthesia, surgery, patient safety, medical sciences, research, or global health
  • Motivation for participation
  • Understanding of IFMSA policy work and external affairs engagement
  • Contribution to delegation objectives and follow-up plans
  • Region and gender representation will be considered

Participants with varying levels of experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Knowledge transfer and mentorship within delegations remain a priority.

Delegation Composition & Responsibilities

The delegation will consist of the LSR and 1-2 members.

Selected IFMSA delegates are expected to:

  • Attend the full duration of the congress
  • Contribute actively to the preparation before the event
  • Align with IFMSA objectives and advocacy priorities
  • Participate in meetings with WFSA and relevant partners
  • Support post-event follow-up, reporting, and dissemination
  • Show full commitment to tasks, deadlines, and teamwork

Important Note

IFMSA is unfortunately not able to cover travel or accommodation costs. Registration fees are covered by the organisers.
