Intel Sapphire Rapids Preset Floating Counters Display 0

To whom it may concern,

Hello! My name is Trevor, and I am a User Support Consultant at the
Barcelona Supercomputing Center. I am reaching out on behalf of one of
our users who is encountering an apparent issue with PAPI on
MareNostrum5, which is an Intel Sapphire Rapids arch. HPC resource with
nodes built on Xeon Platinum 8480+ 56C 2GHz.

Said user is attempting to track a number of floating point counters
using an application called Extrae (https://tools.bsc.es/extrae), which
is a BSC application built with PAPI 7.1.0. Attempting to track said FP
counters with papi_best_set returns the following:

Counter XXXXXXXX (code 40000022): native -- warning, 0 value from kernel
test!

These same counters are always 0 when tracking with Extrae / PAPI, but
display a different value when tracking with applications such as PERF
or LIKWID. The particular floating point counters are as follows:

FP_ARITH_INST_RETIRED2:256B_PACKED_HALF
FP_ARITH_INST_RETIRED2:512B_PACKED_HALF
FP_ARITH_INST_RETIRED2:SCALAR

FP_ARITH_INST_RETIRED:128B_PACKED_SINGLE
FP_ARITH_INST_RETIRED:256B_PACKED_DOUBLE
FP_ARITH_INST_RETIRED:256B_PACKED_SINGLE
FP_ARITH_INST_RETIRED:512B_PACKED_DOUBLE
FP_ARITH_INST_RETIRED:512B_PACKED_SINGLE
FP_ARITH_INST_RETIRED:SCALAR

Additionally, this user has reported the same with some integer counters
as well:

INT_MISC:MBA_STALLS
INT_VEC_RETIRED:ADD_256
INT_VEC_RETIRED:MUL_256
INT_VEC_RETIRED:SHUFFLES
INT_VEC_RETIRED:VNNI_128
INT_VEC_RETIRED:VNNI_256

Some of the events are accounted for under 'Intel Sapphire Rapids
events' in 'papi_events.csv'.

Is the team aware of any complications with Papi's Intel Sapphire Rapids
support, or do you have any suggestions as to how to continue
investigating?
