Dear HYCOM,

We have not seen any GLBu0.08 exp 91.2 (/datasets/GLBu0.08/expt_91.2/data/hindcasts/2018) since 11/20. Please let me know if there is a problem or if we need to switch to another product.

Thank you,

Mark

Mark,

We posted this announcement to the forum.hycom.org. GOFS 3.0 has been
turned off (which included GLB?0.08/expt_91.2) and we are now serving
the new GOFS 3.1 model data. The new latest experiment is
{GLBv0.08,GLBu0.09}/expt_93.0

This was a typo. Still GLBu0.08 (not GLBu0.09). The above URL outlines the details.

The new GOFS 3.1 GLBu goes up to 80N with fixed grid spacing.  The GLBv goes all the way to 90N with the mixed grids.

Michael,

Ahh.  I was not aware that GOFS3.0 incorporated the GLBu0.08/91.2 data.

We use your FTP server as a pre-check for data availability prior to retrieving what we need via OPeNDAP.  I see GLBV0.08, but not GLBu0.09.  Does the GLBv0.08 exp 93.0 use the Navy dataset that extends north of 47°N?  Can you refer me to documentation that goes over this experiment's dataset (i.e. the grid used, format changes, etc.)?  My apologies, I must have deleted the forum email that discussed this.  Also, it looks like these data are updated every three hours. Any difference between the different hours besides an updated run of the model?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi.

When I try to download data from:

The end date on the time range is 2018-11-27T09:00:00Z

Why.

Thank.

A model run for 1 day (24 hours) in GOFS 3.1 has an analysis start
time of 12Z and provides 3-hourly snapshots up until the next day at
12Z. So 3 hrs back from 12Z is 9Z. With GOFS 3.0 the tau
"conveniently" started at 00Z.

At what time (in GMT/UTC) will the /datasets/GLBu0.08/expt_93.0/data/hindcasts/2018 files typically post?

I should have been more clear. I am referring to the t012 files in this directory.

Thanks,

Mark

I¹m not sure if I¹m having the same issue, but I¹m using the endpoint:
http://tds.hycom.org/thredds/dodsC/GLBu0.08/expt_91.2/ts3z to pull the
last 24 hours of data from today using a Python script with the NetCDF4
library.

The most current date I see is: 2018-11-20 00:00:00+00:00

Mark,
Over the past two days, we have seen the data tar.gz files arrive
between 6 am and 7 am EST and then unpacked by 10 am EST. We are
working on tightening up the gap so that these forecasts are available
sooner. The benefit of the FMRC forecast collections is they auto
update/index every 5 minutes, so there is nearly no delay between the
files being published and then being available via the THREDDS FMRC.
