Dear HYCOM Team,

I am currently using the ESPC-D-V02 HYCOM product and would like to clarify the wind forcing used in this configuration.

According to the documentation, ESPC-D-V02 is forced by FNMOC NAVGEM atmospheric fields. I would like to confirm whether the 10 m wind fields used in ESPC-D-V02 correspond to the publicly available NAVGEM dataset hosted at data.gov, specifically:

“Navy Global Environmental Model (NAVGEM), 0.5 degree, 2013–present, 10 m Wind”

https://catalog.data.gov/dataset/navy-global-environmental-model-navgem-0-5-degree-2013-present-10-m-wind

In other words, are the wind speed (or wind vector) fields used in ESPC-D-V02 directly taken from this NAVGEM product, or are they from a different NAVGEM configuration, resolution, or post-processed version?

Any clarification or reference would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance.

Best regards,
Eugene

What is being archived here is the uncoupled NAVGEM.

ESPC-D-V02 is a coupled system that includes NAVGEM and HYCOM.  We don't archive any of the EDPC-D NAVGEM fields, but we do have hourly surface stress which is atmosphere-ocean stress where sea ice free.

There is more information at ESPC-D-V02: Global 1/12° Analysis (Dataset)
