Dear HYCOM, I am splanning to do some 3D Lagrangian simulation in Denmark Strait, and would like to use HYCOM output for u,v,w for parcel advection. However, the vertical (w) component is not available at GOFS 3.1: 41-layer HYCOM + NCODA Global 1/12° Analysis. Do you have any runs with all three velocity components available? I am interested in 2019-2023 but other years would also be ok. Thanks. ~Irina

We don't have any archived w velocities.

We do have the original daily mean archives for the GOFS 3.1 Reanalysis here and the archv2ncdf3z program can write out w see https://github.com/HYCOM/HYCOM-examples/blob/master/GOMb0.08/archive/ncdf3z_archm.csh.  The archive files are relatively large and the Denmark Strait is in the curvi-linear part of the domain but archv2ncdf3z can write out a subregion.

You will also need the 09m11 depth and regional.grid from https://data.hycom.org/datasets/GLBb0.08/expt_53.X/topo/

Alan.

Hi Alan, thank you for getting back to me on this. The most recent yr in the archm that you linked is 2015. Do you have 2020-2022 as well in another archive? Thanks. ~Irina

You don't often get email from alan.wa...@hycom.org. Learn why this is important
