Dear communtiy,

I have been working with HYCOM hindcast data, specifically GLBy0.08/expt_93.0 (e.g.,

https://tds.hycom.org/thredds/dodsC/GLBy0.08/expt_93.0).

I understand that the hindcast files are provided as “best time” data.

For my research, I am interested in the original 7-day forecast fields as they were issued at the time (for example, forecast initializations with lead times such as t000, t024, , t168), rather than the best-time hindcast.

Could you please let me know if these original forecast archives are available, and if so, how I might access them? Or are only the best-time hindcast products distributed to the public?

Any guidance on how to access these original forecast datasets would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much.

suwon

The full 192-hr forecast has been publicly released by the US Navy, but we only store them for a few days in near real time because of storage space constraints.

You can start downloading them every day and over time build up a time series going forward.

If you, or a collaborator, are working on an ONR project, you can access these files on the Navy DSRC archive server, for example:
