Dear HYCOM Data Support Team,

I hope this email finds you well. My name is Jingjing He, and I am a researcher working on ocean circulation and climate change.

I have been downloading HYCOM sea surface temperature (SST) data from the official website, covering the period 2021 to 2024. I noticed that for data after August 10, 2024, the forecast duration is clearly marked as “8-day forecast”. However, I cannot find specific information about the forecast duration for the earlier data (i.e., from 2021 to August 9, 2024).

To ensure the accuracy of my research, I would greatly appreciate it if you could help clarify the following:

What was the standard forecast duration for HYCOM SST data during the period 2021 to August 9, 2024?

If there were adjustments to the forecast duration within this period (e.g., changes in different years or quarters), could you provide the corresponding time segments and their respective forecast durations?

Additionally, the data I downloaded is “global 1/12° analysis data”, which I accessed via TdsStaticCatalog https://tds.hycom.org/thredds/catalog.html.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance. I look forward to your reply.

Best regards,

Jingjing He

All the forecasts are 8 days.  However, data in the "archive" folder aims to be a consistent time series for each day. It contains a copy of the "best" t0000 to t0023 forecast files (note: t0024 to t0047 files from the previous forecast can be substituted when a run is missing).  So you only have a 1 day forecast for each day.

Alan.
