Hi team,
Earlier, I downloaded 3hrly- surface fields for the period 2000-2015 from the experiment "expt53.x".
Now, I am looking for 8km-resolution NCODA-Hycom based monthly climatological currents for the whole Red Sea region (30E-50E & 10N-30N); from surface to the bottom.
Do you have the monthly climatology available anywhere? If not, is there any possibility to prepare the dataset and share it with me, preferably prepared based on this "expt53.x".
I would highly appreciate your help in this regard.
Thanks, and Best Regards
Siva

We have the Reanalysis monthly mean climatology as HYCOM archive files on the original model grid at ftp,hycom.org in /datasets/GLBb0.08/expt_53.X/data/meanstd
The files you want are:

53X_archMN.1994_MM_2015_MM.[ab]

where MM is 01 02 ,,, 11 12 and "01" is the mean of all the Januaries etcetera.

You can use the achv2ncdf3z program in HYCOM-tools to extract any lon-lat subset in any set of depth levels you want.

This is easy to do if you have access to a Linux system and particularly if you are already familiar with HYCOM-tools but otherwise it may take more effort than you would want to spend on this task.

Thanks for the email, Alan.
I am unable to open "ftp.hycom.org" link. I tried with both firefox and chrome.
It would be nice if it has any opendap link so I can open the file in Ferret and cut the data for my region directly. I always used opendap links to cut the NCODA data; never used achv2ncdf3z.
I suppose the monthly climatology file for the Red Sea (30E-50E & 10N-30N; surface to the bottom; U,V, thetao, so, eta) wouln't be big.
Is there any possibility to cut the data for my region of interest and share it with me by dropbox or google drive?
Best

I see that we already have the netcdf climatology on the GLBv0.08 grid:

/datasets/GLBv0.08/expt_53.X/meanstd/netcdf

Filenames such as:

Note that ftp is no longer available in web browsers.  So you have to use a ftp client (there are many alternative, such as FileZilla).  The username is anonymous and it is a convention that you use your e-mail address as the password if the client requests it.

Thank you very much for the suggestion on Filezila, Alan. Now, I am able to download the data with the same.
Best,
Siva
