Dear HCP team,

I have a question regarding structural imaging measures in the HCP Development (HCP-D) and HCP Aging (HCP-A) datasets.

For HCP Young Adult, precomputed structural variables (e.g., FreeSurfer-derived FS_* measures such as intracranial volume, subcortical volumes, cortical thickness, and cortical surface area) are conveniently available in the released behavioral/imaging tables.

For HCP-D and HCP-A, my understanding is that comparable structural measures may need to be reconstructed from the preprocessed structural outputs.

Specifically, I would like to confirm whether extracting measures from the FreeSurfer statistics files:

aseg.stats
lh.aparc.stats
rh.aparc.stats

from the preprocessed HCP-D / HCP-A structural outputs would provide measures that are directly comparable to the HCP Young Adult released FreeSurfer structural variables (e.g., FS_* variables), or whether additional HCP-specific processing / derivation steps were applied for the HCP-YA released structural tables.

In other words, is reconstructing variables from these FreeSurfer stats files the appropriate approach if one wants structural measures aligned with the HCP-YA released structural dataset?

Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards,
Erica Su
