Dear HCP-Users,

I hope this email finds you well.

I am currently working with the dataset 210112_Rest3TRecommended.zip, and I would like to ask for some clarification regarding the preprocessing stages included in this package.

Specifically, I am looking for data that has undergone motion correction and spatial registration, but has not yet been ICA-cleaned. I would like to know whether such intermediate data (i.e., post-motion correction and registration, but pre-ICA cleaning) is included in this dataset.

If this type of data is not included, could you please advise on how I might obtain it? For example, is there a way to access earlier-stage outputs, or would it require reproducing the preprocessing pipeline from raw data?

Thank you very much for your time and assistance.

Best regards,
Tianye Chen

Hi Tianye,

HCP-YA 2025 Preprocessed Resting State Recommended data on BALSA has Spin-echo based ("SEBASED") intensity bias field correction, elimination of the regression of movement regressors as a step in the fMRI data cleaning (see Glasser et al., 2019 Neuroimage), Reclean (improvements to spatial ICA from that in the 2017 S1200 release), and temporal ICA. Currently only the packaged recommended and unprocessed data are available. We do have plans to implement a REST commandline interface that will allow one to transfer intermediate files in the next few months, but it is not available yet.

You can get the S1200 preprocessed resting state data without sICA/tICA (and the other above updates) on Amazon S3, see instructions under the Connecting to AWS Data Using These Credentials header. Use the "Get/Reset AWS S3 Access" button on the HCP-YA project page in BALSA to get Keys.

We would like to reiterate that use of the uncleaned data is not recommended. Perhaps you are testing alternative cleaning methods. Due to these updates, data from this 2025 Release should not be mixed with data from the previous "S1200" Release (from 2017).

Best,

Jenn

Hello Jenn,

I tried to use AWS S3 to download data, but the feedback I got was always ”something went wrong“. What should I do to download data normally through AWS S3?

Best regards,
Tianye Chen
